What is going on in America? It doesn’t matter what your age, you’ve never seen America like this before. The extreme violence, riots, murders, and the hatred! Only five years ago none of us imagined an America like this. A political party threatening a coup if the election doesn’t go their way! Are you serious? Satanic worship out in the open at riots and protests! Shutting down Churches in California while allowing riots? What has this country come to?
America is in serious trouble, so serious America will never see its former glory again. But why? What is happening in America? Let’s look to wisdom from 1,969 years ago:
He is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. 1 Timothy 6:4-5 (ESV)
This has to be one of those great statements of wisdom that has survived through thousands of years to be proven true again and again about human nature, and how timely it is today. What is happening in America? The answer is partly in that verse, and these things now dominate America:
Conceit, ignorance, craving controversy and engaging in quarrels about the meaning of words, envy, dissension of all kinds, slander of good people, evil and suspicious minds, constant friction by people who are truly depraved and totally incapable of possessing the truth about anything.
We see this everywhere, don’t we? A sign of the times perhaps. But there is more that answers what is happening in America today.
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (ESV)
Let’s be honest, America has become a nation of spoiled brats, and worse than that America has become a nation of selfish people seeking to fulfill their every lust all the time. The question isn’t, “what sin can I commit next,?” but “how much worse a sin can I commit than the next guy?”
It’s not just depravity that is popular–it’s the extent of the depth of depravity that is popular.
There is a spirit of dissension I don’t believe any of us have ever seen before. Nearly everyone is fighting about anything and everything. Republicans and Democrats are not even able to discuss politics or economics without blood pressures rising and accusations cast about. Anger is ruining people’s peace and causing great emotional stress.
Christians are arguing bitterly over the security of the believer, predestination, and God’s sovereignty. Those who oppose the fundamentals of Calvinism are casting bitter accusations at mature Christians.
There is a spirit of dissension in the air, because suddenly every idea, every position, and every theory has one and only one correct position, and anyone who takes the other side deserves to be criticized, mocked, and destroyed verbally, if not physically. It’s getting to the point where people are feeling it is safer not to discuss any topic of substance with a friend, and especially not with a family member.
I made the mistake recently of telling one of my best friends I was upgrading my 2012 iMac 27″ computer to a brand new model. I thought he would be excited for me, especially because I use a video editing program that consumes a lot of computer resources. Instead an emotional trigger got flipped inside his neurological network, and he let go of decades of pent-up anger for Apple, and by innuendo, anyone who uses Apple products “drank the cool aide.” Is everyone angry about everything? It would seem so.
The last thing you want to do today is have a discussion with anyone about anything, including, but not limited to, private schools, midwifery, smartphones and technology, Youtube’s bias against conservatives and Christians, CNN or MSNBC, President Trump, Nancy Pelosi, immigration, and whatever you do, do not bring up Black Lives Matter or Covid-19.
Remember we used to be able to talk about the weather as a neutral subject. Not any more. Whatever you do, don’t mention the weather, because that can unleash a torrent of climate change anger, which neurologically is connected to Al Gore, which has a nexus to “chads” on voting cards in the contested Florida election, which triggers many to go into a red-faced rant about how Bush stole the election. One thought leads to another, and before you know it, if you are a conservative white Christian, you are responsible for every problem on the face of the earth since Nero.
What has become of America? Hatred abounds. Anger is ubiquitous. Violence is never more than a heartbeat away. A spirit of dissension is thriving like never before in America.
America is a mess because it has denied God and sent generations of it’s children into the pit of hell purposefully through education and cultural suicide. We are a nation caught up in the arrogance and pride of human self-determination, a nation bent on rejecting God and mocking Him at every opportunity. Maybe we all need to go back and read Jonathan Edwards’ famous sermon entitled, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.”
Is it any wonder America is living a nightmare for political, economic, and spiritual survival? I think not.
By the way, I just purchased a new electric shaver, but I’m not going to tell anyone about it or what model it is. Oh, I also got a mini-tripod for my Logitech Brio webcam for my educational videos, but don’t ask me what kind of videos I create. That’s top secret in the Marunde compound. I’ve learned the hard way that it’s far too risky to share anything with anyone in America today. There’s no sense putting a target on your own forehead and tempting the demoniacs by saying something like, “I love America.” That would be out and out suicidal.
Did I just put a target on my forehead?
